Yikes, December! And the temperature is zero outside, here in MN. This is strange and challenging. Too cold too soon. I’m sure to FB friends in California, our weather seems totally insane. Or we seem quite crazy to choose to live here. Why do we stay? Why do we put up with the ruthless and beautiful cold?
In my own case, I stay because of the vast community of friends and fellow teachers and healers. There is a deeply committed community of people on the same path that I'm on, the path of awakening and awareness and compassion. There is a powerful sense of support here. Support for going deeper into our truth. Respect and appreciation for who each other is, and for what each other is creating. Minneapolis-St. Paul is very rich in the energy of healing. We all have needed to heal, and to support each other, during these intense MN winters. The first settlers here must have said a giant OMG their first winter, and set out to develop healing methods to deal with despair and depression, and alcoholism when drowning their sorrows in drink didn’t work. I myself arrived in 1979 and within 3 months found myself at Hazelden treatment center. Smoking pot didn’t make the winter go away.
Many of the wonderful people here have passed through my office as clients, and I have gotten to see up close their incredible talents and powerful spiritual commitment. The warmth of support heats us and sustains the soul fire that we all want to share.
Wherever you live, the support of your friends and your community is the fuel for co-creating a world of kindness, compassion, and truth. A world of awakening. An enlightened community.
