Step by step, walking into Autumn. It's October 5 and it's only 35 degrees outside in early morning. Crisp, as we say here in MN. Day by day, watching and feeling the weather move from summer toward winter. It's like watching someone age right in from of you.
The leaves on the trees are the narrators of this changing time, just like the mirror tells you how you are getting older. The leaves burst into gorgeous color, and then, with a little breeze, they let go. They fall through the very blue sky, tracing paths of surrender and completion. They have done their thing, and their ending time is an almost overwhelmingly beautiful performance. From joy to letting go, from vitality to surrender.
There is a path along the Mississippi River here called West River Drive. A high path that inclines down to the river. It is almost entirely filled with maple trees, the royalty of autumn. Walking there yesterday, witnessing the changes.
