NEW MUSIC

     Went to a concert of New Music last night. It was very different from old classical music. About the only thing in common was instruments making sounds. It was unsettling. No rhythm, no sweet harmonies. But as the concert went on I sensed my nervous system being plucked and stimulated in some new ways. It was like a very subtle sound massage, waking up muscles in my psyche I didn't know were there. 
     You are attending a New Music performance now, performed by the great orchestra of our solar system. The planets are playing some far out sounds, strange and provocative dissonances. Music that can make you uncomfortable. As you strain to understand how the present energies are different from what you're used to, you squirm in your seat. You wonder how you can get through this concert. You get tired of it and want to fall asleep. But then, suddenly, you start to get it, you open to what you're feeling and hearing and seeing. You let the new energies play. You unwind your resistance. You open your heart to it. You start to make friends with the life that is happening now. It is not a serenade.
It is not a romantic fantasy. The music is different now. And there is a space for you in the orchestra. Take up your instrument and join in. Let's make new music together.
